ADDICTIONS: A HOW TO COPE APPROACH

Addictions can happen to any of us at any time. We all know someone who has had an addiction or who has it now. When it is someone you love, you find that it is a most difficult situation to confront. There are so many medications and forms of treatment out there, and yet, many continue to suffer in silence and without relief.

There are over 60 addictions that are identified and known at this time. The first step in dealing with any addiction, is to admit that there is an active addiction which requires intervention. There are a variety of web sites that can provide you with further information regarding addictions. Two of the newest web sites are http://www.addictions.com and http://www.addictionsolutions.com.

Alot of people try talk therapy or peer support and this can certainly be helpful. There are crisis hotlines, chat rooms and telephone counseling and internet counseling services available to assist you in the comfort and safety of your home. Often, just talking about your addiction can help alleviate the symptoms.

There are self-help programs which you can purchase to help you self treat your addiction if you do not want to seek medical or counseling assistance.

Finally, whatever you do about your addiction or that of you loved one, please DO SOMETHING! It is important to treat your addiction and to not let it go unattended to. Here is a link to our available self-help program page, The Self-Help Store, where you can purchase a program to learn more about your addiction. In addition, our Bulletin Board can offer you an opportunity to talk with others about your addiction.

Please use the internet effectively to get the information that you need to learn about addiction and other concerns. Just typing in "addiction" will take you to numerous resources for you to explore and to get information from. Please learn more about yourself and your possible addiction. Please feel free to email us at our web site so that we can provide you with more information and services if you need them. We also offer a question, on the bottom of one our web site pages, in which we offer information about "Is it a habit or an addiction?" Please look up the information contained in that question and response and use it in your daily living.
